On March 8, 2004, President Yves Mény and Francisco Torres participated in a conference on 'The Future of Europe' in the Pombal Palace of the National Institute for Public Administration in Oeiras, close to Lisbon.

Other participants included Ernâni Rodrigues Lopes, the Portuguese representative in the European Convention, and Kirsty Hughes from the LSE. Many EUI alumni attended the conference and some of them participated in an informal get-together on Sunday evening at the home of Annette Bongardt and Francisco Torres in Cascais.
