EUI Researchers Going to Other EDP Institutions
-
EUI researchers interested in applying to the EDP must send their applications to Professor Peter Hansen (with copy to Lucia Vigna ) before Friday 20 April 2012. A final list of applicants will be decided by the Staff Meeting on 25 April. Students in the final list must then make sure to apply for the EDP host institution they would like to visit (deadline between 30 April and 31 May 2012, depending on the deadlines foreseen by the host EDP institution - please check with the institution).
-
Application requirements: Only researchers currently in the first and second year can apply.
A necessary condition for an EUI researcher to be entitled to apply is a GPA of at least A- computed on all the first-year exams, both compulsory and optional. For first-year researchers, the average will be computed on compulsory courses only. Admissions will be conditional on the necessary average acquired at the end of the year.
The application should contain:
(1) the name of the chosen EDP institution
(2) a recommendation from the main advisor/supervisor
(3) second-year students applying for the third year: an indication of which professors at the host EDP institution might act as advisers during the stay abroad.
Two modalities are foreseen:
-
A maximum of two 2nd-year researchers a year will spend the "advanced year" of the EDP in another EDP institution, and spend the whole academic year abroad.
-
A maximum of four 3rd-year researchers a year will spend six months in another EDP institution.
Requirements, rights and other rules for outgoing students:
-
Minimum average: A necessary condition for an EUI student to be entitled to apply for the EDP is a GPA of A- computed on all the first-year exams, both compulsory and optional.
-
A student who is a national of a certain country can qualify for visiting an EDP institution located in that country (e.g., a Belgian student can visit CORE, a British citizen can visit the LSE, etc.).
-
The Staff Meeting of the Department will have to specifically approve admission to the EDP and the choice of the EDP host institution any given student makes, after having received a recommendation from the student's main adviser. This is particularly important for students in the third year: only if it can be shown that there is a particular professor in the host institution willing to advise on the dissertation, the student will be authorised to leave.
-
Students in both the second and third year are required to return to EUI for the respective year Forum.
-
Each EUI EDP student will take care to apply for the EDP host institution he/she plans to visit within the deadlines foreseen by that institution. It is not guaranteed that any application will be accepted.
-
An EUI EDP student abroad will be subject to the same rules as other students in the host institution. He/she will have to take the same exams and fulfill all other requirements of students in the same year. Those requirements being satisfied, the Economics Department will automatically grant admission to the third year of the EUI PhD programme (if a student has left in the second year), or automatically recognise exams taken in the host institution (if a student has left for six months in the third year).
