Grants and Tuition Fees
Grants and tuition fees for Ph.D. candidates are covered by the national grant-awarding authority for Austria , Belgium , Cyprus , Denmark , Estonia , Finland , France , Germany , Greece , Ireland , Italy , Luxembourg , The Netherlands , Poland , Portugal , Slovenia , Spain , Sweden , United Kingdom .
Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia(*), Lithuania, Malta, Romania (**) and Slovakia are EU Members States, but have not yet signed the EUI Convention. Consequently, there are currently no grants available for Ph.D. candidates from these countries.
Applicants from these countries can be admitted on condition they are able to secure an external sponsorship , or under the special EUI-Funded grant programme .
Successful candidates from these countries do not pay the €12,000 yearly tuition fee.
(*) Latvia has confirmed that it will award grants from 1 September 2012.
(**) Romania is expected to become a member of the EUI in 2012 but no grants have yet been confirmed.
Nationals of Norway and Switzerland and may be admitted to the EUI under the Association Agreements.
Grants and tuition fees for doctoral candidates are covered by the national grant-awarding authority.
The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs awards grants to candidates from: Croatia, Georgia and the CIS (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgzystan, Moldova, Russian Federation, Tajikstan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan).
Tuition fees are also covered by the Ministry.
Unfortunately there will be no grants from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAEC-AECID) for Latin American countries this year - Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haití, Republica Dominicana, Paraguay, Bolivia, Perú, Ecuador, Cuba, Colombia, Costa Rica, Brasil, México, Chile, Venezuela, Panamá, Argentina, Uruguay.
Latin American candidates who have applied to the Institute are therefore being considered under the special EUI-Funded grant programme.
Following the signature of an agreement with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation , the EUI will admit four Russian candidates per year, starting academic year 2012-13.
Applicants from other countries who do not fit in with any of the above-mentioned grant programmes may be admitted on condition they are able to secure an external sponsorship or under the special EUI-funded grant programme .
