Why Choose EUI

Firm foundations and grants

The EUI offers one of the world's largest doctoral and postdoctoral programmes in the social sciences and the largest in Europe and EUI researchers benefit from grants of up to four years from EU Members States and other states. The Institute is a distinctly international institution, hosting a community of more than 1000 scholars from over 60 countries. A thriving intellectual climate, rich in seminars, conferences, and events, hosting leading academics and policy-makers from around the world.

Research facilities

A first-class research Library offers extensive collections and services supporting advanced European-oriented research. The EUI is home to the Historical Archives of the European Union, the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies and the Max Weber Programme for Postdoctoral Studies. The campus is spread over 14 sites, many of which are historical buildings, on the beautiful hills of Fiesole.

First-rate completion and time-to-degree rate

The doctorate completion rate is very high: 90% of researchers finish their doctorate in four years.

Excellent career prospects

The EUI offers excellent career prospects for its researchers and fellows. 71% of our graduates go on to careers in academia or research (universities and research centres), 15% play a role in the international arena by joining European Institutions and international organizations (ECB, European Commission, European Parliament, IMF only to cite those with the highest number of EUI graduates), while 14% develop their careers in the private sector and in national public authorities.
