Marc Bloch Prize in Modern European History (15th-21st centuries)

Since year 2009 the Department of History and Civilization awards a biannual prize of 3000 Euros to the author of the best new MA thesis in early modern, modern or contemporary European history and in the history of Europe in the world.

Marc Bloch (1886-1944) was one of the most influential historians of the twentieth century. In keeping with two central aspects of his historical oeuvre, the Department selects studies with an explicit comparative or transnational perspective of a high scholarly historical nature. Research accuracy, innovation and literary merit are important factors in the final selection.

The Marc Bloch Prize in Modern European History is awarded in a ceremony at the European University Institute in Florence. During the ceremony the winner(s) of the prize gives a talk on the subject of her/his thesis.
