The Constitutional Foundations of EU Foreign Relations Law

This research is part of Prof. Marise Cremona 's research project
The Foreign Relations Law of the European Union: A Constitutional Perspective

This stage of the project involves a reappraisal of the constitutional foundations of EU external relations law: a reassessment of the basic principles of EU foreign relations law that have emerged over 50 years of incremental Treaty-based and judicial development and an exploration of the particular character of the EU’s “external constitution”, placing it in the context of both the EU’s own “internal” constitutional development and the constitutional traditions of its Member States. A second dimension is an assessment of the codification of and changes to that constitution by way of the Constitutional Treaty, and then the Treaty of Lisbon.
