How to Apply

Visiting Fellows

Every year the Department accepts requests from a limited number of scholars from around the world wishing to spend 2-6 months doing research at the EUI.

Priority is given to scholars whose research relates directly to work being carried out in the Department or by one or more of its teaching staff.

Visiting Fellows do not receive any financial support from the Department or the EUI and must be self-financing with respect to travel, living expenses, salary etc.

The Department considers all requests for visiting fellowships twice a year, in November and in March, and with an eye to visiting periods that are planned for the following academic year.

Intending visitors should send the Visiting Fellows Application Form , together with a Curriculum Vitae and a Research proposal to the Head of Department, Prof. László Bruszt,  before the end of October (November decision) or the end of February (March decision). (Only complete applications will be considered).

Please note that from October 2011 there will be only one deadline for applications in autumn every year for visits in the following academic year.

Visiting Fellows do not receive secretarial help but where possible a desk or workspace will be allocated.

Visitors have access to the Library, seminars, email, and canteen.

Short-Term Visitors

Short visits of up to one month can be arranged more informally. All that is required is the support of a current professor in the Department.

Visitors have access to the Library, seminars and canteen, but no desk or office facilities.

The Department does not admit visitors who only want to use the Library, which has its own visitor programme. See Library Access Policy  .

Visiting & Exchange Students

The Department invites applications from visiting and exchange students, and has facilities for a small number of visiting students enrolled on PhD programmes in universities anywhere in the world to come to the EUI for periods of up to six months.

In addition, the Department has exchange arrangements for visiting studentships with: Humboldt-Universität Berlin, University College Dublin, London School of Economics and Political Science, Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Paris, University of California at Berkeley, the University of Wisconsin at Madison, New York University. PhD candidates at any of these universities should consult their administration for more information.

All interested applicants should fill in the Visiting Student's Application Form  and email it, with a one-page research plan and a Curriculum Vitae, to Gabriella Unger . Their supervisors should also send her a statement of support. (Only complete applications will be considered).

Applications must arrive by 31st March for visits starting from September onwards or by 30th September (for visits starting from January onwards.

Visiting students are assigned a temporary supervisor from among the Department's current professors, and have access rights to the Library,  Seminars and Workshop, and the canteen for the period of their stay.

Visiting students must be entirely self-financing as the Department has no funds to support such visits.

In case of failure of the online application form, please fill the Visiting Student's Application Form in pdf , and send it, together with a Curriculum Vitae, either scanned by email, or by fax (+39 055 4685201) to Gabriella Unger .
