Biographical note

Davide Calenda took his Degree (Laurea) in Political Science (concentration: national identity and nationalism in Catalonia) at the University of Florence. He obtained his Ph.D. in Political Sciences (Doctoral program: Information Society) from the University of Florence (2003).

He is currently Research Assistant at Cross-Regional Information System  (CRIS) on the reintegration of migrants in their countries of origin, Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies (RSCAS). Previously, he was research fellow at the Political Science and Sociology Department, the University of Florence.  He has over ten years of experience as scientific consultant and project manager of several national and international research projects and studies in the field of regional development, information society, citizens’ participation, new technologies and immigration.

 

Research interests

His research interests focus on migration, integration, development, new forms of social and political participation, information society, social research methods, and surveillance.

Teaching appointment

He has considerable experience using both instructional (didactic) and constructional (group discussion) teaching methods. He has taught in both English and Italian and has also played a significant lead role in organising numerous seminars and workshops. He has supervised student dissertations.

He is adjunct lecture in Sociology at the Political Science Faculty of the University of Florence, since 2008.

 

Grants and Prizes

2006-2011, research fellowship granted from Department of Political Science and Sociology, Florence.

2000-2003, grant awarded for PhD study at the University of Florence.

2001, Young Researchers Prize, grant awarded at the University of Florence for an innovative empirical research on social and political aspects of Internet use by young people.

2005 (one year), fellowship granted from the National Research Council and Tuscany Region for a research support to a project on ICTs, Public Administration and immigration.
