Biographical note
Alessandra Venturini is Professor of Political Economy at the University of Torino, Italy, and Executive Director of CARIM, European-Mediterranean Consortium for Applied Research on International Migration.
She studied Economics at the University of Florence and got her Ph.D. in Economics from the European University Institute in Florence in 1982. Afterwards she spent 1982 as Visiting Professor at Brown University. She was Visiting Researcher at the Institute of Development Studies of Sussex University, in Brighton, in 1987 and in the same year Visiting Researcher at the International Institute of Labour Studies at the ILO in Geneva.
She started her academic carrier at the University of Florence (1985-1992) continued at the University of Bergamo (1992-1998) and the University of Padova (1999-2002).
She collaborated with the OCDE migration section, with the European Commission Migration programme and with the CEPR Migration Research programme. She was member of number of World Bank research projects on remittances in the ECA countries and on social assimilation of migrants. She is one of the Partners of the TOM project on “Transnationality of Migrants: Enduring ties with the home country and integration in the host country”. She is member of the European Society for Population Economic and of the European Labour Economics Association.
Research interests
Alessandra Venturini's research interests are in Labour Economics, and Migration issues since 1986.
Her interests are on the effect of immigration into the labour market in destination countries, on foreigners assimilation, and on the effect of remittances in sending countries.
