Research Tools

The RSCAS hosts a number of open access quantitative and qualitative databases and information sets that constitute indispensable tools for research related to the RSCAS core themes. For other research tools, ask the project director.

 

CARIM database on migration

N.B. CARIM web site also available in French

The Euro-Mediterranean Consortium for Applied Research on International Migration - CARIM database| contains information on three major dimensions of migration:

  • The demographic and economic module contains a wide range of statistics on migration and related phenomena.
  • The legal module contains the legal provisions directly or indirectly linked to migration, its causes and consequences.
  • The political and social module contains documents emanating from governmental or non-governmental institutions which play a role in defining or applying migration-related policies.

Its interactive programmes enable users to address a wide range of questions, by cross-tabulating quantitative data, constructing graphs and maps, comparing texts, etc. [go to the site - voir le site|]

 

EUCITAC project on Access to Citizenship in Europe

The EUCITAC project on Access to Citizenship in Europe offers a number of databases on citizenship legislation in 33 European and neighbouring countries that are freely available at the EUDO Citizenship Observatory|.

  • The country profiles database  collects experts reports on the history and current citizenship legislation in each country.
  • The national citizenship laws database collects current and past nationality laws and other relevant texts such as constitutional provisions.
  • The international legal norms database provides access to international legal documents, and information on which countries adhere to which international legal norms.  
  • The citizenship case law database provides English summaries and full texts in original language of important national or international court decisions concerning matters of citizenship and can be searched by country, year, institution or keyword [available from 2010].
  • The databases on  modes of acquisition and mode of loss of citizenship allow scholars to create customised comparative overviews for specific ways of acquiring and loosing citizenship [available from December 2009].
  • Citizenship statistics  allows researchers to create customised statistical tables by country, year, or specific mode of acquisition [available from December 2009].
  • Citizenship bibliography provides a searchable bibliography of currently more than 4000 titles on matters of citizenship and nationality laws.
  • Citizenship links is a database of websites of national, European and international organisations (both governmental and non-governmental), leading academic research centres, networks, projects and journals dealing with citizenship.

 

MIREM - Migration de retour vers le Maghreb, Return Migration to the Maghreb

N.B. MIREM web site also available in French

The main objective of the MIREM project lies in better taking into consideration the challenges linked to return migration and its impact on development. Analytical tools are provided to better understand the impact of return migration on the Maghreb countries (Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia).

Research Data on the Council of the European Union

Web site set up to facilitate cumulative research on the Council of the European Union, contains several sets of data on decision-making and voting in the Council, including data used for research held by former RSCAS Director, Helen Wallace, and fellows

MigRes - Migration Resources

Contains data on migration-related issues for scholars and students working on immigration in Europe, course syllabi, a directory of scholars, a selected bibliography, and links to immigration journals and other useful internet resources (description of research centres and networks, governmental organizations and NGOs, databases in Europe, etc.).

Contains more reliable data on Member State infringements of Community law for the period 1979-98 drawn from the Annual Reports of the Commission, the only available source of information.

The Alec Stone Sweet & Thomas L. Brunell Data Sets on the “inputs” and “outputs” of the EU legal system

Since 2002, a data set on Preliminary References in EC Law (1958-1998) has been made available online. During the 6th Framework Programme “NEWGOV - New Modes of Governance Project” (2004-2008), this data set has been expanded and new data sets have been added:

  1. The European Court and National Courts: Data Set on Preliminary References in EC Law (Art. 234), 1961-2006;
  2. The European Court and Enforcement Actions: Data Set on Infringement Proceedings (Art. 226), 1958-2005; and
  3. The European Court and National Courts: Codebook for Data Set on Preliminary References in EC Law (Art. 234), 1961-2006.
