This academic year, the European Union Studies Working Group (EUS WG) has seen the light. The purpose of the WG is to give researchers and fellows who are interested in EU affairs a platform to present their work to an interested audience and sharpen the EUI's profile in the study of the European Union. The WG is sponsored by Prof. Adrienne Héritier .
Programme for Tuesday 13 December, from 13:00 – 15:00 (Emeroteca, Badia Fiesolana):
In “The Power of Initiative of the European Commission: A Progressive Erosion?” by Costanza Hermanin (Researcher, Department of Political and Social Sciences) the following questions are addressed: How has the exercise of the power of legislative initiative by the European Commission evolved over the years? Has the role of the Commission as initiator of legislative proposals really been eroded over time? The study aims to unveil significant trends by qualitatively analysing a select number of innovative proposals adopted by different colleges between 1991 and 2007. The paper is co-authored with Paolo Ponzano and Daniela Corona.
In “Caught in the Middle – the many faces of a civil servant (Norway and the EC 1960-1963)”, Haakon Ikonomou (Researcher, Department of History and Civilization) presents a historical perspective on the relations between Norway and the EC in the early 1960s.
