On 22 February, Allan Rosas, Judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union delivers a lecture on "The EU Sovereign Debt Crisis: Constitutional Perspectives". The lecture and debate are organised in the framework of the EUI’s Debating Europe series and take place in the Sala Europa at Villa Schifanoia, from 17:00 to 18:30. The Director of the Global Governance Programme and EUI Professor Miguel Maduro will serve as discussant of the event, which will be followed by a reception in Sala Bandiere.

Allan Rosas is Judge at the Court of Justice since 17 January 2002. He held various international and national academic positions and coordinated several international and national research projects. He represented the Finnish Government as member of, or adviser to, Finnish delegations at various international conferences and meetings. In 1995, he took up the position of Principal Legal Adviser at the Legal Service of the European Commission in charge of external relations and in March 2001, he has been appointed as Deputy Director-General of the European Commission’s Legal Service. Judge Rosas holds a doctorate of Laws from the University of Turku.

Debating Europe is a new pillar of the EUI’s activities, focused on debating the process of European integration and the major issues confronting contemporary European society. In line with the Convention setting up the EUI, this programme will be a primary platform for the exchange and discussion of ideas and experiences. Debating Europe is conceptualised as a high-level initiative that reflects on – and impacts – the European policy debate, and that enables the EUI to contribute to this debate.
