Debating Europe
In 2011 the European University Institute (EUI) launched Debating Europe, a high-level initiative focused on debating the process of European integration and the major issues confronting contemporary European society. This programme is embedded in the Institute’s research topics and projects and consists of public events involving high-profile external academics, decision-makers and opinion leaders, alongside junior and senior academics from the EUI research community.
In line with the Convention setting up the EUI, Debating Europe offers a primary platform for the exchange and discussion of ideas and experiences meant to reflect on and impact the European policy debate.
In 2012, the Institute generally hosts a Debating Europe lecture on the final Wednesday of each month. Each lecture is followed with a formal reaction by a discussant, after which the floor is open for what we aim to be a multi-dimensional, controversial, and lively debate.
