Systems with internal
differentiation fall somewhere in the middle, there is a relationship between
school composition and achievement but it is not as strong as that in highly
differentiated systems. Students in education systems with high levels of internal
differentiation but no external differentiation, look more like those in
comprehensive education systems in terms of the gap between the top and
bottom socioeconomic background students.
