I am currently a fourth year PhD researcher at the European University Institute, Florence, Italy. My broad research interests include social stratification and comparative sociology. My primary area of research is the study of educational inequality, comparative education, and school effects. My doctoral thesis particularly focuses on educational differentiation and its relationship with educational opportunity for students from lower socio-economic backgrounds using the Programme for International Student Assessment dataset 2006 and a longitudinal dataset of second level students in Ireland. I have a strong interest in comparative large-scale datasets. My doctoral thesis has been approved by the jury and the defence is expected to take place in May 2010. |
