Thesis title: The Europeanization of National Immigration Policies? Liberalising effects of EU membership in a "new"immigration country

Research interests: European integration; Europeanization; comparative immigration policies in Europe; refugee policy




Studies & professional experience


- Diploma in International & European Economic & Political Studies (2000) , University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki (GR);

- Master of Arts in European Studies (2002) , University of Bath (UK) & Humboldt University of Berlin (D), with a specialisation on German Politics and the eastern Enlargement of the European Union.

- Master of Research (2004) in Political and Social Sciences, European University Institute


I have also attended courses on the role of ethnic communities in US politics at the JFK Institute for North American Studies at the Free University of Berlin (1998) and on Constitutional Law, Human Rights, and Philosophy of Law at the Law Faculty of the Radboud University of Nijmegen (1999).


In the academic years 2009-2010 and 2010-2011, I taught courses on the Politics of European Identity and Culture and Justice & Home Affairs in the EU at the James Madison University, MA Program in European Union Policy Studies, in Florence. I also organised and led the research and paper-writing workshop at the same University. I have delivered lectures and seminars in my area of expertise at the University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki, the University of Florence and the University of Siegen . Since December 2010, I have been contributing to the Puzzled by Policy project of the European Union Democracy Observatory (EUDO) at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, EUI. My past professional experience also includes the position of the Political Scientist at the Department of Legal Aid and Human Rights of the Refugee and Asylum Seekers' Reception Center of Thessaloniki , Greece (2000 - 2001).


For the academic year 2011-2012 I have been awarded the Hannah Seeger Davis post-doctoral research fellowship at the Program in Hellenic Studies, Princeton University .




Languages: Fluent in Greek, English and German. I also have a good command of Italian and Spanish, and a basic knowledge of Dutch.
