Helena Carrapiço is currently concluding her PhD thesis at the European University Institute, in Florence, under the supervision of Professor Friedrich Kratochwil. Since 2005, she has become increasingly interested in European internal security, specifically in the development of the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice and the policy area dealing with organized crime. Her previous position, prior to starting her PhD, was as a researcher at the Portuguese Ministry of Defense. Helena also holds a Master of Science in Strategic Studies from the Portuguese Catholic University (2005) and a Master of Arts in European Studies from the College of Europe (2003).
In April 2010, she will move to Vienna, to the Institute for European Integration Research of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, to develop her post- doctoral project, under the supervision of Professor Gerda Falkner.
