Intellectual History Working Group

Home

The EUI Intellectual history working group was founded in autumn 2010 in order to discuss problems related to the theory and practice of intellectual history.

In light of recent developments in intellectual history, that is, the renewed interest in Cambridge contextualism, Begriffsgeschichte, Foucauldian genealogy and the criticisms of these, we aim to explore the margins and limits of approaches related to the discipline.

The group consists of doctoral students at the EUI working in a number of fields ranging from early modern political thought to contemporary conceptual history. Besides working on a variety of historical periods and questions, we openly promote dialogue between different, even contrasting, positions and traditions. Finally, we place emphasis on the close connections between theory and practice.
