This internationally contributed book provides a series of perspectives on international interpretations of a learning society and the role of core skills.

This book covers what should be happening in theory, and what occurs in practice. Academics from various disciplines discuss their views, with contributions from Jim Cooper and Pamela Robinson, California State University, and Terry Evans, Deakin University in Australia.

The contributions included are at the forefront of current thinking and discuss what is being achieved in practice. Key issues examined include: the role of core skills; critical analysis of problems in the development of such skills; how to prepare students for a productive future; how to ensure students recognize themselves as part of an active learning society.
