Yes, applications must be submitted on-line by January 31 at 00.00. After this date the on-line Application Form is not active.
Yes, but references in English or French guarantee the widest possible reading.
No, we need academic references from professors or university lecturers who know you well enough yo give an academic evaluation of your research, intellectual qualities, ability and potential.
On submitting your application, an email requesting a reference on your behalf is automatically sent to the referees you have nominated. However, should you not wish for this email to be sent to the referees, then you should select "No" in field thirteen of the application form.
It is your responsibility to contact referees directly to inform them of your request and to ensure that they submit the reference by the deadline.
References should arrive by the deadline for applications on 31 January, but will be accepted for a few days after this. Your application can be considered without references, but remember that references play an important part in the selection process.
Yes, the EUI needs a degree transcript or a personal declaration to substitute it. This declaration should list the exams/courses taken at university, the grades/marks awarded, and the final degree result.
Submit the transcript as a single scanned file in RTF or PDF (max 800 KB) or attach a single file containing an official university transcript or declaration to the on-line application form.
Do not attach a copy of your degree certificate or diploma. This will be requested at a later date.
Should I translate my degree certificates, transcripts or CV?
We usually accept documents in all the languages of the European Union although those wirtten in English guarantee the widest possible reading. As such translations in English are appreciated but not mandatory.
English translations are recommended for transcripts submitted to the Department of Economics.
No, language certificates are not relevant for admission and not requested for application.
Yes, but you must obtain your degree with the required grade by the following August and send EUI proof as soon as it is available.
Applications without a first degree in Law are considered, but you must have a good legal background. The Examining Board will assess the content and quality of the B.A.
Yes, but check your eligibility for a grant with your national grant-awarding authority.
Write your research statement in English or French.
Summarise your proposed research in max. 1000 words in English or French. You will develop your research statement with the assistance of your supervisor during the first term.
No, you can only apply to one department. However, you can add the name of the other department in ‘Additional notes’ on the application form.

No, if admitted to the LL.M. programme, you must interrupt or end your employment for the duration of the programme.
No, you must interrupt the other course of study. Registration at the EUI means committing yourself full-time to its LL.M. programme.
Similar to the U.S TOEFL or British IELTS test.
During the interviews candidates will take a short written and spoken test in English, or in the language most relevant for their research where this is not their mother tongue.
If a special recommendation is made to improve language competence, final admission is conditional upon the required progress being made.
You can take the test at any time during the interview period without booking in advance. The test takes about 90 minutes.
No, only if your research or the Law Department requires a good knowledge of two languages.
