Isabelle Engeli received her Ph.D. in Political Science from Sciences Po Grenoble and the University of Geneva (joint Ph.D.) in 2007. In Fall 2011, she will start as an assistant professor in political science at the University of Ottawa. Her research interest within the field of comparative politics and public policy include agenda setting and policy change, political representation, as well as gender and morality policies. Isabelle's Ph.D. dissertation examined the extent to which public controversies with a moral dimension, such as abortion and assisted reproductive technology, lead to significantly different types of government action. The study demonstrates the importance of taking into account the configurational impact of institutional interests and ideal factors to explain the evolution of public policies on controversial issues. Her current research splits into two branches. First, she is analyzing, within ESF research projects, the dynamics of agenda setting and policy change. She is currently involved in the Comparative Policy Agendas Project (http://www.comparativeagendas.org ), which aims at developing systematic quantitative analysis of issue attention and politicization in Europe and North America across time. She is also involves in systematic comparative study of politicization and policy making on morality issues such as euthanasia, embryo and stem cell research and same-sex marriage across West European countries. Second, she is working on political representation and the impact of gender dynamics at stake. She analyzes compositional and conditional gender effect in turnout, political attitudes and women's access to elective bodies. In addition, she has a strong interest in comparative research design and methodology. Besides her Ph.D. dissertation, Isabelle Engeli has recently co-edited a book on gender and public policy. Her work appears in Comparative European Politics, French Political Science Review, Swiss Political Science Review and in various books.
