In 1997 a Law degree (1st State exam) from J.W. Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main, Germany and an LLM-degree in European and Comparative Law (cum laude) from Maastricht University, The Netherlands, were awarded.

In 2004 a Ph.D. in Law was awarded from Maastricht University with a thesis entitled Decisions of International Organizations in the European and domestic legal orders of selected EU Member States, supervised by Bruno de Witte and André Nollkaemper. The book has been published by Europe Law Publishing, Groningen 2004.

Since December 2002 I have been appointed Assistant Professor in EU law and Senior Researcher International Law at the University of Amsterdam, Law Faculty and ACIL.

As of 2005 I have been working on a three year-long research project entitled ‘Competing Jurisdiction between the ECJ and other international courts and tribunals’, which is sponsored by the Dutch Research Council (NWO).

From January 2007 until August 2008 I worked part-time as Senior Advisor (European and International Strategy) for the Board of the Dutch Competition Authority (NMa), while continuing my NWO research project.

The main aim of my Max Weber Fellowship, which started in September 2008, is to broaden and deepen my research on competing jurisdiction and dispute resolution and to bring the results together in a book.

Besides the topic of this research project, my research interest has focused on various aspects of EU institutional law, EU external relations, EU cross-pillar issues, WTO law, general public international law and multilevel judicial governance.

The list of journals of my publications includes, inter alia, Common Market Law Review, European Foreign Affairs Review, EUROPARECHT, European Law Review, Legal Issues of Economic Integration, European Law Reporter, Leiden Journal of International Law, Nordic Journal of International Law, American Journal of International Law.

In addition, I have extensive lecturing experience on various aspects of EU law and public international law at all levels (undergraduates, graduates and post-graduates).
