Florian Schuett obtained a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Toulouse 1 in 2008, where he also earned a Master’s in Economic Theory and Econometrics in 2004. He did his undergraduate studies at the Universities of Montpellier and Bremen. As a teaching assistant, Florian has taught several classes in undergraduate microeconomics at the University of Toulouse 1, with topics ranging from basic consumer theory to externalities, public goods and taxation.

Florian’s research interests include industrial organization, political economy and behavioral economics. In his thesis, he applies economic theory to the study of innovation and policy making. He analyzes examination of patent applications by the patent office and how it affects incentives to invest in research. He also investigates the licensing practices adopted by patent holders whose technology has multiple applications. In the field of political economy, Florian studies the implications of a cognitive deficiency known as hindsight bias for the behavior of voters in democratic elections, and how politicians’ anticipation of voters’ bias is likely to affect policy choices.
