My research interests are in legal informatics, ethical and legal issue of medical informatics and legal and political philosophy. Most recently, I have done research on privacy in the area of health in the Internet age, new forms of political participation, and electronic civil disobedience. During my year at the EUI, I will mostly work on a new conceptualization of the right to privacy, focusing on its e-health profiles and on new legal tools to protect it in the Information Society.

I am a teaching assistant in the Universities of Rome “Sapienza” (Legal and Political Philosophy) and Bologna (Legal Informatics). Previously, I have also taught classes as a contracted professor at the Universities of Rome “Sapienza” and Teramo. I have also taught in international and national conferences and seminars, Masters and Ph.D. courses.

In 2004, I earned my Ph.D. from the University of Lecce, with a thesis on legal and ethical aspects of the right to privacy in the health sector (supervised by Prof. Teresa Serra). In 2005, I was Visiting Scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In 2007 and 2008 I was awarded a research grant for a project on legal informatics profiles of the automated interpretation of the law, which I carried out as a contract researcher at the University of Bologna. I also hold a degree in Law (University of Bologna, 2000).

So far, I have published three books (one going to press) and more than twenty articles (book chapters, essays, conference papers, etc.), focusing on legal informatics (privacy and data protection, e-government).
