I completed my Ph.D. in political science at the University of Florence in June 2004 with a thesis on the Internet’s impact on social movements. My research interests focus on new forms of political participation, the global justice movement; effects of the Internet on political participation and collective action; and relationships between social movements, political parties and public institutions.

I collaborated on the project on "The Transformation of Political Mobilisation and Communication in European Public Spheres" (Europub), funded by the European Commission's 5th framework program.I also contributed in the planning and implementation of several surveys on protest events such as Genoa's antiG8 mobilization (2001), the first European social forum (Florence, 2002) and the International Peace Protest (February 2003) against the war in Iraq. I participated in a comparative research on "local social forums" through participant observation and interviews with activists on the issue of democratic participation in Italy.

I was recently been appointed a member of the steering committee of the ECPR standing group on forms of political participation and am currently involved in the DEMOS project (Democracy in Europe and the Mobilization of Society, http://demos.iue.it|), coordinated by Donatella della Porta at the European University Institute.
