David Art is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Tufts University (Medford, MA). He received his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2004, and previously taught at the College of the Holy Cross (Worcester, MA). His research interests within the field of comparative politics include radical right parties, historical memory, and democratization. His work explores the effects of ideas on politics and the role of historical legacies in shaping political outcomes.

Art is the author of The Politics of the Nazi Past in Germany and Austria (Cambridge University Press, 2006). His current book manuscript, provisionally titled How Radical Right Parties Organize and under contract with Cambridge University Press, examines why contemporary radical right political parties have done well in some European states and not in others. His articles have appeared in Comparative Politics, German Politics and Society, Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, and Party Politics.

Art is also the Co-Convenor of the European Consortium for Political Research’s (ECPR) Standing Group on Extremism and Democracy.

Art has taught the following courses: Fascism and the Far Right in Europe, European Political Development, Contemporary European Politics, Building the European Union, Globalization, Introduction to Comparative Politics, Introduction to International Relations.
