Vincent Rebeyrol obtained his Masters degree from the University of Paris Dauphine and then graduated at the University of Paris I with a Ph.D. in Economics in 2008. During his doctoral studies, he worked as an assistant lecturer at the Universities of Paris I and Paris V, teaching mainly International Trade and Microeconomics. In 2004, Vincent was a visiting scholar at the Graduate Institute of International Studies (HEI) in Geneva.
His research interests lie in International Trade, Economic Geography and Political Economy. His Ph.D. dissertation; “Market Integration, International Trade and Firm Heterogeneity” explores how the presence of firms with different productivities alters the determinants of trade patterns, the location of economic activities and the competition among lobbies. This dissertation highlights that large and small firms follow different incentives in the choice of the geographical location of their production, affecting with their location choices international trade patterns. Furthermore, large and small firms do not share a common interest with respect to institutional quality and the adoption of new standards, which results in an intra-sectoral competition among lobbies.
Beside the finalization of some papers extracted from his dissertation, Vincent is currently working on two research issues. The first focuses on the role of product quality as a way to redefine comparative advantages between countries, occurring within sectors rather than between sectors. The second issue relies on the need to give a new definition of market integration, based on the extensive and intensive margin of trade. This would lead to a reformulation of the gravity equation.
