“The opening of labour markets for seasonal workers from the eastern neighbouring countries fills in significant labour shortages in Poland, yet it is also a ground of profiteering for mediators, growth of informal work arrangements and at times exploitation of migrant workers”.This is one of the main preliminary findings of the METOIKOS research project according to research fellow Katarzyna Gmaj (Center for International Relations) who gave a snapshot of the situation on the ground during discussions on regulations of seasonal employment of foreigners held at the third Meeting of National Platform for cooperation on Integration, coordinated by IOM Warsaw  on 3 of September 2010 in Warsaw.

The meeting was devoted to the Labour market Policy and challenges related to immigration and integration. Fake visas, job placements that do not correspond to seasonal visas and non-registering of visas by employers compile a diverse setting of temporary irregular employment of migrants in the country.
