European Forum 2006/7: Activities and Output

PROJECT ENDED
[this page is no longer updated]

2006/7 European Forum navigation

The Forum offers an umbrella for promising, young researchers from outside the EUI to work in the Robert Schuman Centre for a year on this subject. We will pool resources and inspiration in order to establish a significant research framework for the study of the quality differences in education and their relationship to inequality.

The research output of the Forum will be disseminated at special sessions at international conferences in Europe and the USA [see current list grafic element], via our web pages, an edited volume, and the EUI-RSCAS Working Paper series.

Collective edited book

As far as the output is concerned, it is expected that each Jean Monnet fellow in the Forum will endeavour to publish an innovative piece. This will be accomplished by publishing an edited volume or book with a reputable, international publisher on the relationship between educational quality and inequality, analysed from a cross-national perspective. The title of this volume will be Assessing the quality of education and its relationships with the inequality in European and other modern societies.

The scholars associated with the Forum will contribute to this volume, which has three parts:

  • Institutional arrangements and educational outcomes;
  • Migration and educational inequality;
  • Education in Europe and Asia: analogies and differences.

Final conference

The first version of the texts of this volume will be presented at a final conference to which both academic and more-policy oriented audience are invited. This final conference will be held on June 22 and 23, 2007 in the Badia Fiesolana.

The format of the final conference will be discussion by the invited scholars and policy makers [grafic element pdf] of these already available papers, which will be sent to the participants before the start of the conference. So, not a lengthy presentation of these analyses, but criticism and debate will be the core of the final conference.

The final conference is only open for invitees, but it is possible to apply for an invitation. Such an application should be send to the director of the Forum,
Grafic element Jaap Dronkers.
The Forum secretary, grafic element Laetitia Jespers, will handle all logistic questions.
