The Transatlantic Programme gratefully acknowledges the ongoing financial assistance of the US Mission to the EU in Brussels for their support of specific projects beginning in 2004.

The Transatlantic Programme was established in September 2000 thanks to a generous grant from BP. In November 2000 Sir John Browne, CEO of BP, spoke at the European University Institute about BP's objectives in sponsoring the Transatlantic Programme. [read his remarks here]

Additional support from BP permitted the European University Institute to organise in 2001:
an essay contest on transatlantic relations; and
a lecture by Romano Prodi, President of the European Commission.
