Access Policy
In accordance with the rules laid down by the European Communities, amended by Regulation (EC, EURATOM) n° 1700/2003 of the Council of 22 September 2003, the Historical Archives can be used by persons who agree to abide by the regulations of the Archives.
The holdings (paper and microform), can only be consulted in the Reading Room of the Historical Archives in Florence.
Requests to consult the Archives must be made in writing (emails are accepted) to the Historical Archives of the European Union or on arrival at Consultation .
Researchers are registered on arrival on presentation of an identity document and, for university students, a presentation letter from their professor.
The right of access to European Parliament, Council and Commission documents, taking into account the thirty-years rule, Article 255 of the Treaty of Amsterdam, implemented through Regulation 1049/2001 of 30 May 2001, "grants the right of access to all citizens of the Union as well as to all persons resident in a member states to the documents of the European Parliament, Council and Commission documents, in accordance with specific procedures and taking into account some exceptions". The implementing rules shall apply without prejudice to the provisions on the protection of personal data laid down in Regulation EC N°45/2001 of the European Parliament and the Council of 18 December 2000.
