Villa Salviati

On Saturday 10 May, the Historical Archives of the European Union will open its doors to the public to celebrate Europe Day 2014. The Open Day will start at 10 a.m. with the inauguration of the exhibition The Europe of the Presidents - The Italian Republic and the European Integration (1948 - 2014)". The exhibition has been produced by the Università degli Studi della Tuscia and the Centro Studi sull’Europa Mediterranea (CSSEM). It sheds light on Italian presidents and their efforts towards European integration. The exhibition showcases the common European memory preserved in the historical archives of the Italian Presidency in Rome and the Historical Archives of the European Union in Florence.

During the day, the visitors can discover the rich architectural heritage of Villa Salviati and its gardens with guided visits, and listen to classical musical from the European University Institute Music Society and the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. Refreshments will be served at the bar inside the Villa throughout the day.

At 3.30 pm, the exhibition of sculptures “La Superficie dell’Equilibrio” by Paolo Staccioli, curated by Andrea Mello, will be inaugurated in the gardens of Villa Salviati. Paolo Staccioli began his artistic career as a painter, learnt the art of ceramics in Faenza and experimented with the use of fire and copper oxide. The characters painted on the surface of the ceramics (carousel horses, winged cherubs, trumpet players, dolls) are both familiar and fantastic referencing both traditional pottery arts and modern artists.

The Open Day will finish at 5 p.m.

Villa Salviati is accessible to pedestrians only from the gates at Via Faentina 261 and Via Bolognese 156. Car parking is available at the train station FS Salviati at Via Faentina.
