The Historical Archives welcome two new trainees

Posted on 23 February 2015

Manon Le Guennec and Nora MartínTwo new trainees have arrived this month at the Historical Archives of the European Union. Manon Le Guennec is an Archives trainee who stays at Villa Salviati for a month as part of her Archival Science education in the ‘École nationale des chartes’ in Paris. An enthusiast on learning about how European institutions work, she decided to apply for the internship at the HAEU on account of the possibility of performing her duties in contact with contemporary archives. “I have always been interested in European history, and this is a good place to have a first professional experience as an archivist. I believe it is also good to know how archivists work in different places, because you get to know other ways of doing things and reflect a bit about them.” After this traineeship period, she will go back to France in order to finish her Degree. Then, she will have to pass a competition to enter to the ‘Institut national du patrimoine’, where she aims to become a curator for the French government.

Nora Martín is a Communications trainee who will work for the Historical Archives the next twelve months. After ending her studies in Journalism and North American Studies at the ‘Universidad de La Laguna’ in Tenerife, she was willing to find a place to improve both her professional and linguistic skills. Her duties will include writing news for the HAEU website, updating the social media profiles and assisting the archivists in the communication tasks. “Nowadays, finding a spot in your own field is proving genuinely difficult for most of university graduates in Spain. I definitely think this internship will provide me with a professional experience I wouldn't be able to achieve in any other place, and I want to make the most of it.” Having already stayed at the city of Florence during her Erasmus scholarship, she is glad to be back, this time working at Villa Salviati.
