Posted on 26 March 2015

SurveillanceAndDemocracyPreselectionThe first 15 finalists of the art competition “Surveillance and Democracy in Europe” have been chosen. On March 19th  a jury composed by Dieter Schlenker (Director of the Historical Archives of the European Union), Luigi Zangheri (President of the Academy of Art and Design), Adriano Bimbi (Artist, Sculptor, Fellow of the Academy of Art and Design, professor of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts), Antonio Di Tommaso, Nicola Nuti (journalist and art critic), and Francesca Fedeli (art historian) held a meeting in Villa Salviati to evaluate the projects sent by the students from the Academies of Fine Arts of Florence and Carrara. While evaluating the proposals for an art installation in the premises of the HAEU the jury took into consideration as guidelines the compliance of the projects submitted to the theme proposed by the contest organized by the European University Institute and the parameters specified in the competition announcement, the possibility of creating the art installation within the park space at Villa Salviati, the resistance of the materials proposed for the construction of the piece, as well as the possible dangerousness implied in the process of building them.

According to these criteria, the jury selected the works by the following participants to be displayed in an open exhibition within the gardens of Villa Salviati until June 30th:

  • Bellè Giulia
  • Bianchi Licia
  • Bressan Maria
  • Castagna Chiara
  • Crepaldi Daniela

  • Jourdan Céline
  • Liu Jialiang
  • Mancini Lavinia

The winner of the art competition will be announced with the occasion of the Open Day, on May 9th, a day full activities organized by the Historical Archives of the European Union to mark ‘Europe Day’.
