Spain and the European Union - History of their relationship

The European Commission Representation in Spain, the Digital Archive Spain-European Union (SEDAS) and the Historical Archives of the European Union have jointly prepared an exhibition on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the Spanish accession to the European Community.

The exhibition aims to foster reflection and debate on what the membership to the European Economic Community has meant to Spain. It pays special attention to the negotiations that took place from February 1962, when Spain first requested accession to the European Community, until its official entry as member state on January 1, 1986.

The exhibition consists of a chronological overview of these thirty years and changes for Spain to in the fields of education, agriculture, innovation, the environment or monetary policy.
