The Historical Archives Service of the European Commission (Service Archives Historiques, SAH) transferred new archival material to the Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) earlier this year. The collection, coded COM, is now inventoried and accessible for consultation.
The record code COM refers to particular documents which include for example decisions of Council of Ministers, the Commission’s proposals and projects to the Council in the areas of finance, administration, budget, trade and external relations. The documents demonstrate the creating of the rules of the European Communities year by year.
The collection covers the years from 1958 up to 1985, and contains approximately 27 000 files coded COM. The whole time period is documented in French and German. From 1962 onward each file has copies also in Italian and Dutch, from 1973 in English and Danish and from 1981 in Greek. The year 1985 adds also Spanish and Portuguese copies into the collection.
The SAH is preparing access online to the electronic copies of these files enriched by the archival metadata and the original collection can from now on be accessed at the Historical Archives of the European Union.
