"Europe through the Generations" documentary by the Council of EU

Posted on 12 October 2016

The Council of the European Union produced an inspiring documentary film on the political context and ideas behind the creation of what is now the European Union. The documentary sheds light on the creation and the founding fathers through unique interviews with colleagues and relatives who knew them intimately, and who have shared private videos and archive for the first time.

The documentary includes interviews with Italy’s former Prime Minister Alcide De Gasperi’s daughter Maria Romana De Gasperi and France’s former foreign minister Robert Schuman’s former private secretary Jean-Marie Pelt among others. Inspiration for the documentary stemmed from the book “Europe, a leap into the unknown” by Victoria Martín de la Torre.

The documentary film is available online with subtitling in the EU’s 24 official languages.
