Upcoming conference "A University for Europe – Higher Education and European Integration"

Posted on 13 October 2016

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the European University Institute the Alcide De Gasperi Research Centre and the Department of History and Civilization, in collaboration with the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, are organizing the international conference "A University for Europe – Higher Education and European Integration”. The conference will take place on 28 October 2016 from 9:00 to 17:00 at Sala del Consiglio, Villa Salviati.

The conference will bring together high profile academics and EU actors with the aim of addressing the relationship between higher education and European integration in a historical perspective and of exploring the main challenges now facing higher education in Europe. The keynote speech The Challenges Facing Higher Education at the European Level will be delivered by Adam Tyson, European Commission’s Director for Higher Education.

In particular, the conference will explore the first plans for the creation of a European university; the gradual involvement of the EU in the policy-making of higher education cooperation; the education reforms initiated by the Bologna Process in the late 1990s and the research aspects of the EU's Lisbon Strategy for jobs and growth.

During the conference a joint exhibition on the history of the CEDEFOP and the EUI will be inaugurated in the cloister of the recently restored Villa Salviati.
