Posted on 30 March 2017

With deep sorrow we have learned about the passing away of M. Georges Rencki on the fifth of March in Paris.

Mr. Rencki was a friend of the Historical Archives of the European Union for many years and accompanied with profound interest its developments and achievements.

In 2013 he deposited his personal papers at the HAEU

These papers are a precious source for researchers and comprise written documents and audio-visual material covering his commitment to European Integration from 1947 to 2010.

Mr. Rencki took an active part in the arrangement and description of his papers which the archivists found to be a helpful and enriching experience.

His kind approach and promptness turned collaboration with Mr. Rencki into an unforgettable enriching human experience.

His immense experience deriving from his lifelong engagement with European Integration are also reflected in the three interviews he contributed to the Oral History Programme about the history of the European Commission.

During his last visit at the Historical Archives in Spring 2016 he was informed about the newest deposits and was introduced to the archival arrangements of the HISTCOM interviews deposited in Florence.

He also took a vivid interest in the arrangement and outline of his deposit.

His genuine interest and participation was always a source of stimulation and inspiration The Historical Archives of the European Union will not forget him and share in the grief of his two sons and their families.
