2017 Postgraduate research grants on European public finances – 11th Edition

Posted on 10 April 2017

The European Court of Auditors (ECA) and the European University Institute (Historical Archives of the European Union) have launched the 2017 edition of their grant scheme for researchers in the field of European public finance and EU budget, in particular their impact on various areas of European society and culture, and on the historical development of the “external control” function in the context of the EU.

Two grants are available in 2017 to enable researchers to broaden their research through access to the HAEU, to which the ECA has entrusted its historical archives and those of the Audit Board. The grant scheme is open to academic researchers from a range of disciplines including law, political science, economics, sociology, public administration and history. The applicants should be preparing a thesis, dissertation or scholarly article in the lines of the aforementioned subject areas.

The deadline for the applications is 16 June 2017, and the application with all supporting documentation must be submitted in either English or French. Completed application should include a detailed presentation of the research proposal, detailed annotated bibliography of sources, justification of the need to use the ECA’s archives, a statement of the applicant’s plans for scholarly publication of the research results and a list of previous publication as well as a letter of recommendation. Naturally, the research itself and subsequent publications may be in any of the official languages of the European Union.

The ultimate decision and assigning of the grants will be completed by the Selection Committee which composes of current or former officials of the European Court of Auditors and the Director of the HAEU. The successful applicants will receive a research grant of 5.000€ which will be paid in two instalments: 3.000€ at the start of the research and 2.000€ after an essay on the grant holder’s research subject has been submitted to the Selection Committee.
