Tommaso Padoa Schioppa fonds inventory now online

Posted on 15 May 2017

Tommaso Padoa Schioppa (TPS) deposited his documents to the Historical Archives of European Union by a private contract signed on 3 March 2009. The documents arrived to the HAEU in several shipments, and consist of 929 files and 1035 photos. The inventory is now available online and the fonds is available for research at HAEU in Florence.

Following the will of Padoa Schioppa and his family, the files are under the 30 year rule which makes them accessible 30 years after their creation. The documents have been divided into sections according to the stages of Padoa Schioppa’s institutional duties; first servant and then higher official of Banca d’Italia (1968-1997), European Communities (1979-1983), President of Italian Securities and Exchange Commission (Consob) (1997-1998), vice-director of European Central Bank (1998-2005), Minister of Economy and Finance (2006-2008), consultant and President of the Notre Europe think tank until his death on 18 December 2010.

His documents give a great insight into the European monetary and financial integration. In fact, Padoa Schioppa is considered as one of the founding fathers of Euro.
