Posted on 04 July 2017

Thanks to the close collaboration of the Historical Archives of the European Union and the Fondazione De Gasperi  an important part of the historical fonds of the Great Italian Statesman Alcide De Gasperi is now open for consultation:

The correspondence by Alcide De Gasperi from 1944 to his death in 1954.

The correspondence comprises in and outgoing letters with hundreds of personalities mainly in Italy, but also in Europe and in the USA: politicians, clergymen, military and judiciary authorities, journalists, diplomats, civil servants, simple citizens, artists and intellectuals.

The files include handwritten notes and drafts by De Gasperi and documents like press cuttings and printed material. In total it consists of more than 20.000 pages in 642 files.

The online inventory is alphabetically organised and indicates the dates and the size of every single file.

The consultation of the digitalized versions of the correspondence has to take place in the reading room of the HAEU in Florence and photocopying is not permitted.

Currently, we kindly ask users of this fonds to contact the Archives at least two weeks before the planned consultation date in order to grant the material time to prepare the electronic files for consultation.
