Europe in the Archives, Europe in the Future – UACES Conference

Posted on 02 October 2017

From 12-13 October 2017, the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies and the Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) will be jointly hosting the ‘Europe in the Archives, Europe in the Future’ conference at Villa Salviati and Villa Schifanoia, Florence.

As the UACES archives were recently deposited there, the HAEU will take centre stage for first day of the conference. The event will also showcase these materials for the first time.

The conference is organised by the Academic Association for Contemporary European Studies, UACES and the European University Institute. It will bring together both academics and archivists to examine the last 50 years of European Studies and UK-EU relations. This event is also co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme, and will mark the 50th anniversary of the UACES as the UK hub for the study of Europe.

The anniversary also coincides with the UK’s triggering of Article 50 of the Treaty of the EU. Speakers will therefore debate how shifts in UK/EU relations and other pressures on the Union could have an impact on the EU studies in the years to come. It will be particularly focused on the study of Europe prior to UK membership in the EU, the period during the accession process and what it means for the study of Europe now that the UK is preparing to leave the EU.

Please view the programme and register here before 4 October if you would like to attend the conference. To register for the conference please select the free EUI Affiliates ticket type.
