About the Library

Welcome to Europe's social science research Library

Explore the extensive services we offer in our Charter of Services

Research at the Institute is supported by an excellent library in the Social Sciences, and a team of experienced librarians and information specialists.

More than forty years of investment in collections, services and infrastructure, have resulted in an internationally recognised social science research library, valued for its multi-national character and the high quality of its collections with a special emphasis on Europe.

Most of the Library’s print holdings are on open shelving. In addition, the Library provides its users access to an extensive collection of databases, full text e-journals, eBooks and electronic working papers.

The Library has the status of European Documentation Centre (EDC), an official depository of EU publications and documents.

The EUI subscribes to the principle of Open Access. Library staff strives to work with the academic community to increase the content, coverage and visibility of the EUI research repository, Cadmus.

Membership and Networks

The EUI Library recognises its responsibility to maintain the collection in good condition and to ensure its availability for future users, regardless of format.

In addition to  Cadmus, the EUI Research Repository, the Library has joined three electronic archiving services, Portico, Global LOCKSS Network and CLOCKSS, whose aims are the long-term preservation of scholarly electronic information.

The EUI Library has participated in the Global LOCKSS Network since 2008 as part of its digital preservation efforts and continues to capture and archive electronic journal literature from selected publishers.
