Access to E-resources

Terms and Conditions of Use

Users of the licensed electronic resources available from the EUI Library must adhere to the Terms and Conditions of Use| as well as the EUI Library Copyright Policies|. These define the specific conditions of use and restrictions under which the Library may make access available to its users, both on-site and off-site (remote access).

On-site Access

Library users can access most electronic resources from any computer in the Library. EUI members may also use their own laptops in the library through either a PC to LAN Connection or via the Wireless network. For the technical details on how to configure your laptop, refer to the following:

Off-site (remote) Access

Off-site (remote) access to the Library's electronic resources is only available to current EUI members (researchers, fellows, faculty and staff). There are a few exceptions where off-site access is not possible due to licensing restrictions. Off-site access is available whether connecting to the Internet through a private Internet service provider, the EUI's VPN remote connection, or  the EUI's own dial-up modem access.

Regardless of the access method used, users will be asked to login with their name and Library barcode when linking to a licensed electornic resource. This verifies the user's current EUI Library status and their right to access electronic resources.

Due to restrictions in the license agreements for the electronic resources, off-site access is not allowed for anyone who is not a current EUI member. This restriction applies to alumni or external users.

  • Internet Service Provider Access (e.g. ADSL)

The Internet provider may be a commercial service or any other facility that offers Internet access such as libraries or cybercafés. The Library's web pages and Catalogue can be accessed by anyone from anywhere using standard browser software.
  • VPN Remote Connection

Virtual Private Network (VPN) provides a secure remote connection to the EUI's internal servers and resources from a non-EUI network or an Internet connection using a 3rd party provider. Please follow the instructions on the Computing Service web page.
  • Dial-up Access

EUI members with a telephone connection can access the Internet with the EUI's dial-up modem connection. The Computing Service has detailed instructions on Setting Up PPP Modem Connection. Users should keep in mind that users will have to pay for any charges associated with the telephone connection.
