What is EBL Ebook Library ?

EBL Ebook Library is an online database that provides full-text access to a selection of ebooks purchased by the EUI Library.

You can find EBL Ebooks in the Library Catalog (a list of EUI's EBL titles is available here ) or by searching or browsing directly in EBL .

Who has access to EBL Ebook Library?

Access is restricted to current EUI members only. When users link to EBL from the EUI Catalogue from on or off-campus, you are asked to enter your EUI Library code and last name. If you are denied access after entering these credentials, please contact the Library using the online Problem Report Form .

What does it mean to take a book "on loan" in EBL?

Users can browse the full-text content of any EBL ebook for 10 minutes. If you want to continue reading after 10 minutes, or if you want to print or copy contents from an EBL ebook, you  must take it out "on loan" first. EBL Ebooks can be "checked out" to multiple users at any given time.

The default loan period is 24 hours. To continue accessing the ebook once a loan has expired, simply create another loan as you did your initial loan.

Personalized bookmarks and notes that users create in an ebook are accessible even after a loan expires.

What are the printing and copying restrictions for EBL ebooks?

Due to licensing and copyright regulations, printing is restricted to 20% of an ebook and copying to 5%, based on total number of pages of a given book.

In order to print or copy pages from a book, users must first take the book "on loan" (see above). The EBL system keeps track of print and copying allowances automatically for each book a user has taken on loan. Remaining print/copy balances can be viewed for each ebook on the Details tab in the Online Reader. The EBL Print Screen will also tally your remaining print balance while you print.

If you try to reprint a page you already printed (previously deducted from a book's 20% print quota), the reprinted page will not further reduce your print quota balance.

Can I download EBL ebooks?

No. The download functionality in EBL is currently disabled due to technnical issues beyond the control of the EUI.
