New online search tools at the EUI Library

Posted on 05 September 2014

Libraryhome02-07-2014From today, the EUI Library will significantly increase the search tools available, allowing you to search quickly across a rich range of many of our e-resources. On our home page, the single search-box for the Classic Catalogue will be joined by two new tabs, “Journal Articles” and “Primo”.

The “Classic Catalogue” search box remains as before and can be used to check Library holdings of books, e-books, journals, e-journals, and individual e-resources. As always you can search by keywords, title, author, etc. Generally speaking the full content of these resources is not searchable, only the information contained in the Library catalogue record.

To allow for deep searching across much (but not all) of our e-resource content, we have added two new tabs powered by the Primo discovery service:

“Journal Articles” allows you to carry out quick keyword searches of thousands (though not all) of our e-journals with links to the full-text of the articles found.

“Primo” brings together hundreds of different types of e-resources (including the Library catalogue and the Cadmus research repository) which can be searched simultaneously. When possible the results will contain links to the resources identified or otherwise show you where to find them.

These new search tools are fully functional but will require fine-tuning in the months ahead. On the Library web you will soon find a short guide explaining the new discovery services .
We also look forward to receiving your comments and suggestions so that what we can better adapt the new search tools to your needs.

We hope our users will appreciate the reach and convenience of these new search tools but please remember that they do not offer access to everything we have. The EUI Library has rich collections of specialised e-resources (data and statistics, EU information, legal databases, citation databases, historical sources, etc.) that are not all covered by the Primo discovery service . All of our e-journals and other e-resources are listed in the Library catalogue (and on various A-Z lists, portals, etc. ) with direct links to the resources themselves where you can carry out more focused searching.
