ILO LABORSTA / Economically Active Population (ILO)


Data description 

The LABORSTA-Economically Active Population  database compiled by the International Labour Organisation, contains estimates and projections of total population, activity rates, economically active population; and estimates of labour force distribution in 180 countries and territories.  The database consists of:

  • Yearly data, forming the basis of the ILO Yearbook of Labour Statistics, covering 9 themes in 31 tables
  • Periodical data, forming the ILO Bulletin of Labour Statistics covering 5 themes in 10 tables
  • 'October Inquiry data' forming the ILO October Inquiry
  • Segregated data and employment by sex for detailed occupational groups
  • ILO-comparable, annual employment and unemployment estimates and adjusted averages
  • ILO Public Sector Employment
  • Economically Active Population Estimates and Projection data
  • Methodological descriptions and sources of national statistics


Time period 

Most indicators begin in the 1950s.

The database  is constantly updated by the ILO.

How to access data 

Make selections by period, geographical area and variable via the LABORSTA/Economically Active Population  portal.

The 5-volume Economically Active Population 1950-2010   is located in the Badia Library Statistics Collection (STA-DW-CL).
