Data description 

The European Union Democracy Observatory at the EUI generates periodic data on democratic practices within the EU. These data sets are available online from the EUDO Data Centre .

EUDO data is produced by four project observatories under the overall direction of Prof. Alexander H. Trechsel.

• The Observatory on Public Opinion, Political Elites and the Media  analyses attitudes and preferences of electorates, the media and elites, and aims to measure the extent and the way in which these converge or diverge. Managed by Mark Franklin   and Alexander H. Trechsel .
• The Observatory on Political Parties and Representation  analyses European parties as representative channels, agenda setters and gatekeepers on the uncertain road towards a fully-fledged and effective Euro-party system. Managed by Luciano Bardi ; co-founded by Peter Mair † and Luciano Bardi .
• The Observatory on Institutional Change and Reforms  analyses reforms and adaptations in the current institutional design of the EU, particularly those reforms and adaptations that are most likely to foster increased popular acceptance and legitimacy for the Union. Managed by Adrienne Héritier   and Bruno de Witte .
• The Observatory on Citizenship  is devoted to the development of citizenship in the European Union and its Member States and the impact on democratic inclusion and participation. Managed by Rainer Bauböck   and Jo Shaw .

Data is released with new EUDO project studies .

How to access 

The beta version of the EUDO Data Centre was launched in November 2011 .

Users can download data presented in structured collections, with detailed production and citation information. Data documentation can also be downloaded.

Quantitative data sets allow descriptive and advanced statistical analysis; full-text search on data documentation (including variables); case- and variable-sub-setting; and on-the-fly conversion to multiple data formats.
