New Cronos

Data description

NewCronos  is the former name for the Eurostat Dissemination Database .

This page only describes access to New Cronos data on CD-rom  to 2003.

To access Eurostat data to 2010, go to this Eurostat data page .

Start-dates of series vary by accession date and availability of data.

NewCronos  contains macroeconomic and social statistical data covering the member states of the EC/EU and, for selected series; Japan, the United States and other external economic partners.

The data is monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly, depending on the statistical theme.

The start-year varies depending on accession and availability factors.

New Cronos is subdivided into domains, each covering a specific statistical theme. Each domain is identified by an alphanumeric code and structured in collections giving economic and social indicators.

The data within a collection are structured in multidimensional tables where the dimensions specify the country, the economic and social variable, the unit and the frequency. More information on the contents of New Cronos and on the composition of the multidimensional tables may be found in the classification plans which are available on the server.

The New Cronos database has 6 levels.

  • The first level of the New Cronos database is called the theme.
  • Each theme is subdivided into domains. There are several domains in a theme.
  • Each domain is then subdivided into collections. There are several collections in a domain.
  • Each Collection is then subdivided into groups. There are several groups in a collection.
  • Each Group is then subdivided into subjects. There are several subjects in a group.
  • Finally, each subject is composed of multidimensional statistical tables of data (filename .DFT). There are several tables in a subject.

How to access data

Enter the New Cronos database via this Catalogue link  (EUI user name and password required).

When downloading to Excel (or other formats) - use the D:TEMP drive or the A: drive to save data.

The main part of the screen displays a list of titles corresponding to the different levels of New Cronos as described above.

Determine the table containing the information required.

There are two ways to locate a table:

- Navigate in the tree structure by clicking on icons or links, or

- Search keywords in the index
